Hey! I’m Aqilah. I smile, a lot.
And I’m 25 years old from Sydney, Australia. I was born in Brunei and raised in Oman and Singapore. Yes, a little confused there. What’s my background? I’m a one-hundred percent Malay. Go figure.
Let me ask you one very simple question. Why are you here?
Maybe you’re frustrated looking at yourself in the mirror and that you’ve been trying to lose that last few kilos but haven’t found the success yet. Maybe you have some serious health issues and you’re sick and tired of taking pills to get your blood pressure in control. Maybe you simply just ran out of ideas on what to do for your next workout. Or maybe a good friend of yours recommended you this site.

In March 2010, I was standing at 84kg. It wasn’t the weight, or how I looked. It was the way I felt. Apart from not being able to run for the bus or climb a flight of stairs without feeling tired, I felt horrible in the insides. I fell sick quite regularly and my motivation somehow fell at the time I need it most.
Fast forward to 8 months later, I lost 20 kilos, ran my first 10km fun run and felt younger, more passionate and a whole lot more awesome. You might think my journey ended there, but the more I lived in this healthier me, the more I realise how much fitness and health is a lifelong thing.
Losing weight three years ago was a great thing. What happened after I lost weight was even better. Not only was I learning something new every single day, I was helping people turn their lives around, I discovered my passion and I don’t think I will stop any time soon.
That aside, welcome!
Now my goal is simple. It also happens to be my lifelong dream, at least since I’ve turned my life around three years ago. I want to inspire you to make positive changes to your life and live better. I want to show you how you can implement small, decent changes into your life to consistently improve your health in the long-term and be happy at the same time.
I want to help you live a pretty awesome life.
If I do my job right, you will wake up every single day feeling better than you did yesterday. You will feel motivated, inspired, eat better, get a little stronger, feel a little more energetic, and maybe even lose that little bit of weight.
Why Pretty Awesome Fitness?
Because fitness is not just about looking good, it’s about how you feel inside. It’s what makes you happy. It’s being the best that you can be.
Before I started blogging, I was working in a gym as a Personal Trainer. It was fun, and it gained me lots of valuable opportunities and experience but it wasn’t something I want to do over a long period of time. I went on to start my freelance fitness business in Singapore but due to personal circumstances, I had to leave it to return to Sydney.
Upon my return in July 2013, I applied for, and worked for a busy travel agency, only to realise that it wasn’t making me happy. In pursuit of my passion and drive to help others live healthier, fitter and happier, Pretty Awesome Fitness was born.
With this blog, I want to coach, teach, motivate and train and be as transparent as possible with everything I did and everything I know about fitness and nutrition. This won’t be like your typical fitness blogs with endless workout programs and things like that – in fact you’ll even read stuffs like how to increase your willpower or even travel. Whatever it is, I just hope to help you live an awesome life through fitness.
On top of that, I am absolutely sick of all the confusing things I read everywhere about losing weight, fitness and health. I know cause I’ve been through it.
I’m not trying to show off my success, in fact, I don’t have those typical crazy aesthetics you see in magazines and I am just your average girl. No, I do not have a six-pack, and neither do I wish to have one. I miss workouts some days and yes I do have pizzas. But I know how to balance them all because that is what makes me happy.
This website is just the beginning of my way of giving back for all the fortunate things that has happened to me ever since I lost weight, strengthened my body and increased my energy levels and fitness.
If you’re looking to lose weight, be it 5 or 50kg, feel healthier, live better, accomplish more, be more positive, feel fitter and leaner, I hope that my experience and knowledge can help you reach your goals.

I don’t consider myself a top-rated fitness trainer. Or even a fitness expert. I’m sure there’s so many out there who are superiorly better than me, and they’re also the people I look up to.
Yes I have my Personal Training certificates, a degree in Physiology, and a couple of other fitness related stuff but I don’t consider myself an expert. In fact I am still constantly learning and soaking up worthy information today. At this moment, I am finishing my Specialist Trainer certifications and it does not stop here.
That said, losing weight, being healthier and fitter takes time, effort and a lifelong commitment. It is not a 12-week program or a 1200 calorie diet. I know because I’ve been there. I can help you, feed you with research based information and advice, but it all comes down to you and how much you want it.
